Our patients are the heart of everything we do!

Health centers were built from the ground up — by communities, for communities — to make sure no one is left out of the care they need. Whether it’s a parent bringing their child in for their first checkup, a senior managing their diabetes, or a young adult receiving mental health support, each person’s story is part of ours.

We are honored to care for you, to grow with you, and to be your trusted health partner. Thank you for choosing us. You inspire us every single day.

Health isn’t one-size-fits-all — and that’s exactly why we’re here.

From chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes to preventive screenings, maternal health, and mental health services, health centers are rooted in comprehensive, whole-person care. We meet people where they are, provide culturally responsive services, and work to break down every barrier to wellness.

This week, we’re honoring the impact of community health centers in treating complex needs with dignity, compassion, and consistency — planting the seeds for lifelong health and healing.

PRESS RELEASE TEMPLATE

[HEALTH CENTER NAME] Celebrates National Health Center Week 2025 Across North and South Dakota Communities

[CITY, STATE] — [Name of Health Center] is proud to join health centers across North Dakota and South Dakota in celebrating National Health Center Week (NHCW) from August 3–9, 2025. This annual event shines a spotlight on the important role Community Health Centers (CHCs) play in keeping our local communities healthy, strong, and connected.

This year’s theme — “From Community Roots to a Healthier Tomorrow” — honors decades of advancing health and improving access to care. Throughout the week, health centers across the Dakotas will be highlighting their organizations, their staff, patients, and the immense impacts they create for our local communities.

CHCs in the Dakotas are deeply rooted in the communities they serve. With a mission to provide high-quality, affordable care to all—regardless of income, insurance, or background—our health centers help people stay healthy and thrive close to home. In both rural and urban areas, CHCs offer primary care, behavioral health, dental, pharmacy, and other supportive services that address the full picture of a patient’s health.

“[INSERT QUOTE FROM HEALTH CENTER LEADER, e.g., ‘At [Health Center Name], we believe everyone deserves access to care that treats the whole person. National Health Center Week is a time to celebrate our patients, our staff, and the role we play in making our community stronger.’]”

Across the country, more than 1,500 CHCs serve:

  • 1 in 5 people without insurance
  • 1 in 3 people living in poverty
  • 1 in 5 rural residents
  • More than 9 million children
  • Nearly half a million veterans

In North Dakota and South Dakota, CHCs care for more than 162,000 patients each year across 60+ clinic locations. By focusing on prevention, accessibility, and whole-person care, CHCs help reduce long-term health costs while improving outcomes for patients and families.

Like many health care organizations, CHCs are facing growing financial pressures as federal funding deadlines and new policy changes loom. These challenges could impact services and staffing, making this year’s National Health Center Week an important time to recognize and advocate for the life-saving care CHCs deliver every day.

MEDIA MANAGEMENT TIPS

How to Send the Press Release:

  • Save as a PDF and paste the content into the body of the email as well (reporters often prefer the text in the email).
  • For the subject line, include “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:” and then the title of the release.
  • For the timing, send the release 5-7 days before any planned event or campaign kickoff.
  • Send a reminder or follow-up the morning of your event or media opportunity.
  • Attach a photo if available of your logo, your facility, or other media you have available to share for the media to use.

Who to Send the Press Release To:

  • Built a list of local and regional newspaper editors and reporters, TV and radio station assignment editors and health reporters, online news outlets, community newsletters, or local bloggers. Include local public affairs staff and CHAD’s communications team for additional amplification or help with responding to media inquiries.

How to Respond to Media Inquiries:

  • Designate a point person or media contact listed on your press release.
  • When contacted, respond promptly (within 1-2 hours if possible).
  • Ask what their deadline is and what information they need.
  • Offer to schedule a brief phone or Zoom interview with a subject matter expert, or an in-person interview.
  • Provide a media kit if you have one (include your press release, logo, photos, talking points, other information about your health center)

How to Develop Key Messages for Interviews:

  • Prepare 3-5 clear and concise talking points, such as who you serve and the role of health centers in your community. What services you have available and how people can access them. The significance of National Health Center Week, or any urgent advocacy or funding needs.
  • Use local stats, such as how many patients you served, uninsured rates, economic impacts.
  • Focus on community impact and real stories of your patients or staff (with permission).

How to Select Staff for Interviews:

  • Choose individuals who are comfortable speaking to the media and on your message. In leadership roles or have a compelling perspective, such as front-line staff, or patients, with consent.
  • Offer media training or prep in advance – practice mock interviews or quick Q&A sessions. Remind them to speak slowly, keep answers short, and avoid jargon.

How to Notify Internal Staff about Media Activity:

  • A great practice is to inform staff about news that could be coming about your organization ahead of time, as a courtesy and helps retain trust and awareness.
  • Let your team know via an email or internal newsletter to share the date/time of interviews or media visits. Share in staff meetings and announce who will be quoted or interviewed.
  • Post a copy of the release on your intranet or facility bulletin boards.
  • Provide basic media talking points in case staff are approached informally by press.

How to Track Earned Media Coverage and Impressions:

  • Set up Google Alerts for your health center name, event names, and staff names being interviewed.
  • Monitor your local media outlets and their published content.
  • Save all coverage, including taking screenshots or saving URLs.
  • Track key metrics such as the outlet name and links, story headlines and air/published dates, what type of media it was (TV, radio, print, online), and estimated audience/impressions.

INTERNAL STAFF COMMUNICATION TEMPLATE (From leadership to all staff or from manager to direct reports)

Subject Line: With Deep Gratitude — Celebrating You This Week and Every Week

Dear Team,

I want to take a moment not just to recognize the mission of community health centers — but to recognize you.

This week shines a spotlight on the impact of health centers across the country. It reminds us of the power of what we do — we see it every single day, in every clinic, every department, every patient story.

It’s your time, your talent, and your heart that make this place special. Whether you’re greeting a patient at the front desk, delivering care in an exam room, managing systems behind the scenes, or supporting a colleague during a long day — you are making a difference.

And I want you to know: We see you. We value you. And we care deeply about who you are — not just what you do. Your job title doesn’t tell the whole story. The real story is told in the small moments of kindness, the steady commitment to quality care, and the way you show up for our patients and for each other, even on the hardest days.

On behalf of our entire leadership team: thank you for bringing your full self to this work — not just during National Health Center Week, but all year long. You are the heart of this health center, and everything we’ve accomplished as an organization is because of people like you.

Let’s keep supporting one another, lifting each other up, and doing the work that matters — together.

With deepest appreciation,
[CEO Name or Director/Manager Name]
