Celebrating Health Centers in the Dakotas

NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK – AUGUST 4-10, 2024

National Health Center Week is a time to recognize health centers across the Dakotas contributing to healthier communities today and in the future. Join us as we recognize the significant impact health centers like us are making on patients and communities.

Health centers in the Dakotas are valued for providing integrated primary, behavioral, and dental health care. The Dakotas’ network of health center organizations provides care to more than 160,000 patients each year in 54 communities across North Dakota and South Dakota.

Focus Days

Sunday, August 4, 2024 - Public Health in Housing Day

On the kick-off day to National Health Center Week, we are celebrating Public Health in Housing Day. As community health centers, we believe in reducing barriers to primary care.

Monday, August 5, 2024 - Health Care for People Experiencing Homeless Day

Health Care for People Experiencing Homelessness Day is a time to honor and celebrate the work being done at health centers to provide high-quality, comprehensive primary care, behavioral health care, case management, outreach, and other needed services to meet the needs of unhoused people. People who are unhoused have high rates of chronic and acute disease, behavioral health conditions, and other needs that make them particularly vulnerable to poor health, disability, and early death.

Tuesday, August 6, 2024 - Agricultural Worker Health Center Day

Today, we are celebrating Agricultural Worker Health Day because community health centers serve more than 1 million migrant and seasonal agricultural workers, approximately 20% of the total estimated agricultural worker population in the United States and territories.

Wednesday, August 7, 2024 - Patient Appreciation Day

Today, we celebrate patients and board members who keep health centers accountable and abreast of community needs.

By law, health center boards must include at least 51% of patients who live in the community served by the health center. This patient-driven model works because it ensures that health centers represent the needs and voice of the community. Local community leaders govern health centers, not far-away corporate executives.

Thursday, August 8, 2024 - Stakeholder Appreciation Day

Community health centers like ours benefit from support and collaboration with local partners and government officials at the local, state, and national levels. We are proud to have a long tradition of support from both sides of the political aisle. Thanks to our many public and private partners who enable us to serve our patients better and pursue our mission of access to high-quality health care for all Dakotans.

Friday, August 9, 2024 - Health Center Staff Appreciation Day

The incredible value health centers bring to their patients and community is because of the diligent work of our staff and volunteers. These individuals are committed to providing high-quality care to all patients in need, no matter what. Please join us in recognizing the amazing CHCs in the Dakotas for Health Center Staff Appreciation Day!

South Dakota:
More than 31,500 children in South Dakota get their primary health care from a health center. As the youngest members of our communities prepare to return to school, CHCs provide immunizations, sports physicals, well-child exams, and dentist appointments.
