ACA Navigator, Western SD Community Action
Judy McCarthy has been an Affordable Care Act (ACA) navigator at Western SD Community Action (WSDCA) since 2015. She is responsible for providing information and enrollment services for clients interested in health insurance through the federal health insurance Marketplace. She has also been part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, an Internal Revenue Service initiative providing income tax assistance for low to medium-income individuals and families.
Before coming to WSDCA, Judy was a recruiter in the human resources department at Rapid City Regional Hospital for 21 years. After living in Aberdeen, farming at Mt. Vernon, and owning a café and catering service in Armour while working at the Douglas County Hospital and volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician, the family relocated to Rapid City in 1990.
Judy loves flowers and gardening, collecting fabric (which will one day become a creation), serving as the financial secretary of her church, and can usually be found in the kitchen. She has served several years as a volunteer for federal, state, and local elections. When not helping people, she can be found enjoying time with her husband, Dave, two sons, seven grandchildren, and lots of extended family and friends.
