
CHAD hosted an informative Medicaid training designed for community partners, service providers, and others who assist individuals with health coverage, specifically in South Dakota. This session provided an overview of the Medicaid application and enrollment process, highlighted best practices for working with clients, and shared updates on policies and procedures. The presenters also briefly shared about Medicaid’s new BabyReady program, highlighting the benefits the program offers to Medicaid recipients and enrolled providers.
Presenters walked through common challenges, helpful tips, and available resources to support individuals and families navigating Medicaid. The session concluded with time for Q&A, giving participants an opportunity to bring forward questions and real-world scenarios.

Kara Peery is a medical program specialist with DSS, bringing almost 6 years of experience in Medicaid eligibility. Kara’s work focuses on policy and procedure development to help ensure accurate and efficient access to health care for those who need it most.
Valerie Kelly is the Program Manager for the BabyReady Program. Valerie has been with DSS for 20 years, 9 of which has been with SD Medicaid. Valerie received her B.S. and Master’s from Black Hills State University. Valerie is married with 2 daughters (27 and 21), and lives on an acreage outside of Pierre. Valerie is excited to share information about the new BabyReady program and looks forward to a future of improved maternal-fetal outcomes.
