At Glory House, I met a man in his 50s who had never had health insurance as an adult. Fresh out of the prison system, he was unaware that Medicaid would cover his medical, dental, and vision needs.
“I finally feel like a real member of society.”
When I explained what Medicaid provided, he was stunned—and deeply grateful. He shared that he had been rationing heart medication due to cost and hadn’t taken it regularly in years. What struck me most was when he said, “I finally feel like a real member of society.” I reminded him that he always was a member of society — he just hadn’t had the resources to feel that way.
That moment reminded me why this work matters: sometimes what seems like a small enrollment can restore someone’s dignity, safety, and hope.
